I have two questions for you here.....Do you know where you products are being made? Is it a factory that processes other chemical-based products also? Is that factory overseas. Many other U.S. companies contract manufacture their products in Asia or India. Do you trust them with your life?
 
Our products are proudly made in Rockford Illinois, here in the North Central Region of the United States. We have created all the recipes. We make everything except for a few makeup items. Our "batches" are small...Our largest is our liquid castile soaps. We make 5 gallons at a time of the unscented base. Most are made in 1 gallon or smaller batches. Our products are a labor of love.
When you order a scented lotion or shampoo, we fill the bottle right then adding the essential oil scents blends for your "scent". Then we cap and label the bottle. Next stop is the packing table. Then into the office for accounting and purchasing the postage.
Very few of our items are made ahead except a few products that "fly" out of here....Like the toothgel. We may have 2-6 sitting on the shelf.
 
This love labor is labor-intensive. This is the reason our products cost more than commercially available products. However, we are cheaper than any of the other high-end producers many who use ingredients I have chosen not to use. A workman is worthy of his hire......

Do not try to compare Healing-Scents to the “big boys” on the Internet or at your local store.
Most personal care companies are now owned by a few pharmaceutical companies. They have “economy of scale” their batches are 500 – 1000 gallons. They have to use chemical ingredients and preservatives to keep them preserved and lose effectiveness of the real ingredients. Their chemical raw materials cost pennies. In fact, the packaging, shipping, advertising, is all wrapped up into those products and cost much more than the ingredients. We are a micro-business; we can’t do business like them.
 
If you trust the "big boys" products; their ingredients and where they are produced; you would not be looking for safer alternatives. I started this business because I learned not to trust those “big boy’s” products. I feel it is those ingredients that are causing the eczema and skin issues as well as the illness and cancers rampant in our world today.
 
SHIPPING. I could offer UPS or FedEx; but they would be more expensive than USPS Priority Mail. I have found that Parcel post is often almost the same cost as Priority Mail. We have to ship on weight. (We do not get volume discounts like the big boys.) I dislike shipping costs as much as my customers. You can have no idea how much I have to pay in shipping for my raw materials and supplies. When I order lye; I pay as much for shipping as for the lye; doubling my costs.

1. (How long have you been doing this?) I have been learning about essential oils and creating products since 1997. It has been a wonder journey for this home-grown, “green” artisan.  We have a mother-in-law apartment behind our garage that has been converted into our studio.  Everything is created in small batches. I make my soap the way your grandmother would have done it, but without the animal fats.
 
2. (How did you get started?)  I received a book called "The Scented Home". It mentioned essential oils. I started buying many different books about essential oils and learning everything I could about the oils, safety issues, and therapeutic/traditional uses.
 
3. (Do you have a chemistry degree?) I do not. I have always been very good in the sciences and possess a very inquisitive mind. I have always created my own recipes in the kitchen. I used that knowledge to create toxin-free products.
 
4. (How did you come up with the formulas for your products?)  I started by researching the essential oils one would use for a specific condition. I started researching carrier oils and their benefits. At this point I start putting the two together. Each successive generation is a little better than the next.
 
5. (Do your products really work?) Yes. My most frequent comment from my customers is: It really works! Since I use minimal heat and pressure, the fragile essential oils still have their therapeutic benefits.  I would not sell any product that did not work. I am out to better the environment and “us” people.
 
6. (What happens if I have an allergic reaction to a product?) If you have a reaction; stop using the product temporarily. Then try the product again. If you are using any chemical products at the same time, this can cause reactions. It is difficult to tell the difference between your skin getting rid of toxins and an allergic reaction. Think back to what you have been using. Did you stop using your chemical products when you ordered ours? Please email or call us so I can help research what might have happened. We have taken everything out we can possibly take out that many are allergic. As you get your internal body systems cleared; your skin will clear also. If you are truly allergic we will have you send the product back and replace it with a comparable product.
 
7. (What kind of guarantee do you have?)  We can only accept returns if you have contacted us and receive return instructions. We will offer refund on items which are teturned in saleable condition, less a 15% restocking fee. Items which are opened and/or used are obviously no longer saleable. We will offer store credit less a 15% restocking fee on those items.
 
8. (I have a health concern or idea for a new product, can I talk with you about it?)  Yes!  That is how at least half of my products came into existence. Feel free to email, or call me.
 
9.  (I live outside the United States; can I order?)  No; unless you live in Canada. I do not ship outside the U.S.. You can set up a U.S. address through several companies. Once you have that; you need to contact me by email and I can give you the rest of the information on how I can accept your credit card. ANSWERS
 
1. (I don’t have a Paypal account and don’t want one, how can I order from you?)    When you get to the “Review and submit” page, click the “Send Payment by Paypal” button. (Paypal processes all my credit card transactions.) Under the "Choose a way to pay" section;  click “Don’t have a Paypal account?” question. Fill out the credit card information. Click the “Review Order and Continue” button.
 
2. (I have forgotten my Paypal password and I’m having trouble completing the ordering process.)  See answer to question1. If it is not working; you can email us your order at healing-scents@comcast.net, then call us at 815-874-0924 to give us  the credit card information and we will process it manually. This takes much more time on our part. We hope you will help us be as efficient as possible.
 
3.  (I am shipping to a different address, what do I do?)  It is very important to put the different shipping address in the order after you click the "Pay by Paypal" button. And please remember to click the "Return to Website" link one time. If you don't go back don't worry. This generates information for me to get your change of shipping address. Check the Paypal confirmation you will recieve. This is the shipping addfress we have online to use.
 
4.  (The shipping costs seem high, why is that?) The shipping cost includes paypal fee of 5%, insurance, making, bottling, labeling, picking, packing, accounting, postage, and getting it physically out the door. Each order takes at least 15 minutes for these three operations.  Shipping costs are based on weight and zone. We are not a not-for-profit; if I don't cover costs, we will go out of business. We are micro-size. We get no discounts from the shipping companies.  When I find my shipping is going quite a bit too high, I try to include a Spray (my choice). The lowest tier shipping will go out by First Class mail, unless it is more than 13 oz.  EVERY ORDER GETS AT LEAST  ONE, USUALLY TWO OR THREE SAMPLES. My gift to you to make up for the differences in shipping costs. Think about it this way; can you afford to lose $2-3 dollars, ten to fifteen times per week? Our small family business can not either. If the costs are $5 too high, I will refund it through Paypal.
 
5. (What will you do with my personal information?)  I do not get your credit card information, it is encrypted. Your name, address, email and all that is used in my accounting system. From that point, nothing else happens with it. I do not sell it, rent it or give it away. I do not want my personal information used that way and I will not use yours.
 
6. (Can I get Free Shipping?) Yes! If you order more than $200 in products, Shipping is free! A 15.95 value.There is just a $5.00 fee to help offset the processing fees.
 
7. (I live in Canada; can I still order from your website?)  No. And there are no retailers in Canada. I do ship to Canada. You can not order online. I can't set up Paypal to accept Canadian orders and not the rest of the world.
 
To place an order:
Email me your order. Include your name, address, phone number. Then you need to call me (815-874-0924) with your credit card information (number, expiry date, 3 digit code on the back) or email it to me.
 
Shipping to Canada is expensive and rates go up in January again. We also have to cover the Credit Card Processing Fees which are higher for "out-of-country" transactions. It takes at least 1 hour for us to complete a shipment. We charge between (as of 7/2011) $32-37 to send a "flat-rate" box. Lots of stuff can go in that size box. Smaller boxes are between $24-29.  I have checked out UPS rates. They are not cheaper and are much more difficult to set up and ship for us. Both my customers had large customs bills when I shipped UPS....So I use the US Postal Service.

Labels:
  Being a micro business; we have always printed our own labels. We use water-resistant labels which work much better than the alternatives.
We have tried tape and sealant sprays. They do not work… The tape holds moisture behind it and makes the problem worse.
 
The alternative; have labels professionally printed on that shiny, non-smudging paper, would cost us about $20,000. We have over 400 products. Labels would need to be printed for every scent even though some are not ordered often…or we scale down our scent offerings….
  I ask my “regulars” to remember you are supporting a small business, not a giant conglomerate. You should be using up the shower products within a year; so I have never felt the need for permanent labeling.
